Continuing the Tradition of Giving at College Park High School College Park High School and PTO have adopted CISDвЂ™s Armstrong Elementary, located north of the Woodlands, to help provide much needed assistance, support and mentoring to disadvantaged children. College ParkвЂ™s new adopted family Armstrong Elementary is considered a вЂњTitle 1вЂќ school which is defined as a low social, economic school with little parental support. Over the past four years, the College Park PTO has had the honor of orchestrating a holiday party for our former adopted elementary school Runyan. TWCP wishes to continue its tradition this year by helping to host another holiday party for the whole Armstrong school, over 700 students! Each student will make an ornament or similar craft, decorate cookies, enjoy a snack and participate in a book swap. This project, being so large, will require the additional support of our school and community. We will need craft supplies, snack items, and the sum of 725 age appropriate new reading books. By making a cash donation, these funds will help pay for the items mentioned above and give these children a wonderful, lasting memory. Garrett Soileau started playing rugby his freshman year. Like most individuals who start playing rugby, he quickly fell in love and learned to play the game well. He was selected for Texas High Performance teams every year and his senior year he played for the Rocky Mountain Challenge AllTournament Team and USA Rugby Stars and Stripes, reserved for the top 50 Boys and top 50 Girls selected from Regional All Star Tournaments. In response to the question of what he loves most about rugby, Garrett explains, "The fact that everyone has the chance to prove themselves. In rugby everyone has the chance to take the ball in for the score and feel what itвЂ™s like to put points on the board for your team. Forwards have to be able to pass just as good as backs and backs have to be able to go blow up a ruck if needed. You basically have to be able to play any position which isn't like any other sport out there. "To me rugby means opportunity. This sport has given me so many opportunities that I would have never gotten if it weren't for rugby. Because of rugby I've had the privilege to represent my state and even represent my country. I've made friends with people all over the United States and even overseas because of all the opportunities rugby has presented me with." Garrett is perfect example of everyone getting a chance to prove themselves in rugby. He most recently was invited to the U20 Junior Men's All American World Trophy team. With parent and teacher sponsor help, we participate in high school bass fishing tournaments. We have approximately 18 members and we currently need members with access to a bass boat. The door is always open to every CP high school student interested in pitching their fishing skills against other high schools in local bass fishing leagues. We travel at least once a month to lakes such as Conroe, Livingston, Lake Houston, Sam Rayburn and LBJ. We currently hold the 2014 Texas State Champions title for bass fishing. 3 of our teams placed in the top 5 on Conroe last month. In December we will compete against over 200 boats from over 30 schools in the SETX fishing league on Sam Rayburn reservoir. The Texas Association of Future Educators (T.A.F.E.): The Texas Association of Future Educators (T.A.F.E.) held its Regional competition this past Saturday at Porter High School. Ana Ashley & McKenzie Winsemius, Alyssa Grayson and Ethan Hallford, Dominik Passmore & Julie Yanez and Lauren Royle & Sydney Bagley had projects to show and oral presentations explaining their project to present to the judges. Each student did an outstanding job in the competition and representing College Park High School. It is the ВЎBailamos! dance club. It will meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. LGI fishbowl, at 2:45 pm. Please encourage all students to come and become a member, especially those freshmen that haven't become involved in any extracurricular activity. This club is a cross-cultural group where students will be learning to dance everything from the Texas 2 step to the Salsa, to Flamenco, to Tango, etc. WRITERS CLUB: Writers Club meets on Mondays @ 2:45-3:45, in room 1610. Students can share their own writing including fiction, nonfiction or poetry. Students will be able to get ideas and constructive feedback from fellow writers, contests and meet other aspiring writers. SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB: College Park Speech and Debate students competed at Kingwood last weekend with successes in Humerous interpretation, prose, poetry and Lincoln Douglas debate. We are preparing for district scrimmages and upcoming tournaments as well as UIL district congress competition at A&M Consolidated on November 11th. ART CLUB: Art Club will begin meeting on Tuesdays, in room 1414. All students that are interested in creating art are invited, no experience necessary. We will meet from 2:45 to 3:45. Bring a friend.
