Ο Πυθαγόρας, ο Σωκράτης
και ο Πλάτων αναπαύονταν σε
αρωματικά φυτά, φύλλα, φύκια,
μαλλί, βαμβάκι και απόλαυσαν
τη ζωή μέχρι το βαθύ γήρας.
Στην COCO-MAT ακολουθούμε
πιστά τη σοφή πεπατημένη των
προπατόρων μας και διαπρέπουμε
σ' ολόκληρη την οικουμένη,
διακινώντας τα διδάγματά της.
Χειροποιούμε τα στρώματά μας,
αφουγκραζόμενοι τη Φύση, στους
ψιθύρους και τις κραυγές της, στο
φως και το σκοτάδι. Εσείς;
Pythagoras, Plato and Socrates,
all spent their lives sleeping on
nature. Sleeping on handmade
mattresses, made with seaweed,
aromatic plants, wool and cotton.
In COCO-MAT we follow the same
principles as our ancestors, and
we preach a way of living which
may come from the past, but has
never been more modern. We
make our mattresses by hand,
using the same materials our
fathers did. We learned to listen
to Nature, to its whispers and
its calls, in light and in darkness.

vecchiaia avanzata. Alla COCOMAT seguiamo fedelmente ciò

COCO-MAT was founded in 1989
Κάθε φορά που κάποιος πελάτης
μπαίνει ευγνώμων στο κατάστημά
μας και μας ευχαριστεί για τον
άνετο και ξεκούραστο ύπνο που
απολαμβάνει χάρη στα προϊόντα
μας, αισθανόμαστε ευτυχείς για
την επιλογή μας να γίνουμε, 15
χρόνια πριν, μέλη της μεγάλης
οικογένειας της COCO-MAT.
Η εταιρεία τότε ήταν ακόμη
πολύ νέα, μόλις 8 χρόνων, αλλά
κάποια πράγματα μας έπειθαν
ότι θα ξεχωρίσει. Αυτό που μας
γοήτευσε περισσότερο και μας
έπεισε να συνεργαστούμε με την
COCO-MAT ήταν η φιλοσοφία
της και η δέσμευσή της απέναντι
στο περιβάλλον, την κοινωνία
και τους ανθρώπους με ειδικά
προσόντα (ειδικές ανάγκες).
Σήμερα αισθανόμαστε
υπερήφανες που ανήκουμε
σε μια ελληνική εταιρεία που
εξακολουθεί να μας εμπνέει.
Τα προϊόντα της παράγονται
στην Ξάνθη, όπως και τότε, και
φτάνουν σε όλες τις γωνιές του
κόσμου. Σέβεται το περιβάλλον,
όπως τότε, και έχει αγκαλιάσει
ανθρώπους διαφορετικών
εθνικοτήτων και ικανοτήτων.
Μας αρέσει που συμμετέχουμε σε
μια πολύχρωμη ομάδα ανθρώπων
με ταλέντο, ειλικρίνεια και όραμα.
Εκτός των άλλων, μας επιτρέπει
να κοιμόμαστε καλά το βράδυ.

The company was very young
at the time, just 8 years old,
but certain things convinced us
that it would stand out. What
mostly captivated us and made
us confident about entering into a
partnership with COCO-MAT was
its philosophy and commitment
to the environment, society and
people with special skills (our
word for the disabled).

γνωστή μας καρύδα, περιβάλλεται
από λεπτές, ανθεκτικές ίνες. Αυτές
μορφοποιούνται σε φύλλα και
χρησιμοποιούνται στα προϊόντα
μας, αφού πρώτα ψεκαστούν
με φυσικό καουτσούκ για να
ελαστικοποιηθούν. Διακρίνονται
για την ανθεκτικότητά τους, τη
μονωτική συμπεριφορά τους και
εξασφαλίζουν τον απαραίτητο
αερισμό τού προϊόντος.

The outer shell of the well-known
coconut tree fruit is a mass of
thin, durable fibres. These are
extracted, shaped into layers
and used in our products after
the addition of liquid natural
rubber for enhanced elasticity.
Coconut fibres are noted for their
durability and excellent insulation
properties, at the same time
allowing for sufficient ventilation
in the final product.

Το φυσικό καουτσούκ έχει τη
μορφή γαλακτώδους χυμού και
συλλέγεται από το τροπικό δέντρο
Hevea (καουτσουκόδεντρο). Το
μορφοποιημένο σε φύλλα φυσικό
καουτσούκ είναι συνώνυμο
της ελαστικότητας, ιδιότητας
εξαιρετικά ανθεκτικής στη χρήση
και το χρόνο. Επιπλέον, αποτελεί
αφιλόξενο περιβάλλον για τα
πάσης φύσεως μικρόβια, ενώ η

Natural rubber comes in the form
of a milky sap and is collected
from the trunk of the tropical
tree Hevea. Basically following
a traditional method, the sap is
turned into layers of a product
that is the synonym of elasticity.
Natural rubber is an exceptionally
durable material with a porous
texture that allows for sufficient
ventilation. Furthermore it
is noted as an inhospitable
environment for microbes and
bacteria.

fragrant leaves have traditionally
been used as a remedy. They help

Horsehair creates a dry
environment and benefits people
suffering from rheumatism,
thanks to its moisture-regulating
properties. The material we use
comes from the horse's mane and
tail. It is shaped into layers and
then sprayed with natural rubber
for added elasticity.

ambiente secco ed ha un effetto
benefico in organismi che
soffrono di reumatismi, grazie
alla sua capacità di regolare

καθαρίζονται. Περιέχουν ιώδιο,
ένα πολύτιμο για την υγεία μας
ιχνοστοιχείο και συστατικό των
θυρεοειδών ορμονών. Τρώγονται
ως σαλάτα στα Φιλιατρά, ως σούσι
ανά τον κόσμο και αποτελούν
μια φυσική ασπίδα προστασίας
απέναντι στις αλλεργίες, το άσθμα
και τα αναπνευστικά προβλήματα.
A treasure of rare quality,
seaweed thrives in abundance in
the celebrated seas and coasts of
Greece. We carefully collect and
clean them. Seaweed contains
iodine, an essential constituent of
the thyroid hormones and vital to
good health. Seaweed is served
as a salad dish in Greece and as
sushi around the world and one of
its functions is to fight allergies,
asthma and respiratory ailments.

Το λινό προέρχεται από το φυτό
λινάρι και έχει πλούσια ιστορία στην
παραγωγή υφασμάτων. Τα λινά
υφάσματα είναι μαλακά στην αφή,
υποδειγματικώς απορροφητικά και
πολύ ανθεκτικά. Επίσης, ως εξόχως
δροσερά, ενδείκνυνται για τις ζεστές
εποχές του έτους, ενώ επιτρέπουν
στο δέρμα να αναπνέει, χωρίς να
«κολλούν» πάνω του.

plant but has a rich history as
one of the elite of the fabricmaking world. Linen fabrics are
sumptuously soft, exceptionally
absorbent and highly durable.
Linen is well known as a "cool
fabric", especially suitable for the
warmer seasons.
Il lino proviene dalla pianta del
lino ed ha una ricca storia nella
produzione tessile. Le stoffe
di lino sono morbidi al tatto,
assorbenti in modo esemplare e
molto resistenti. Inoltre, essendo
estremamente fresche sono
adatte per le stagioni calde dell’
anno, in quanto consentono alla
pelle di respirare, senza perciò
"appiccicarsi" su di essa.

Αυτοφυές φυτό των παραμεσόγειων περιοχών, η λεβάντα είναι
γνωστή για τις ιαματικές της
ιδιότητες, τις οποίες ο άνθρωπος
γνωρίζει ήδη από την αρχαιότητα.
Το αιθέριο έλαιό της βοηθά τον
οργανισμό να χαλαρώσει και χρησιμοποιείται στην αρωματοποιία,
τη σαπωνοποιία και τη φαρμακευτική. Η COCO-MAT χρησιμοποιεί
τον αποξηραμένο ανθό της, μέσα
και κάτω από το μαξιλάρι.

Its essential oil is widely used in
cosmetics, perfumes, balms and

lavender flower heads inside
and underneath pillows to aid
peaceful sleep and relaxation.

να μονώνει, το μαλλί είναι το

καλοκαίρι και ζεστούς το χειμώνα,
διατηρώντας τη θερμοκρασία
σε σταθερά επίπεδα. Μπορεί να
απορροφήσει το 1/3 του βάρους
του σε νερό, ρυθμίζοντας έτσι, με
φυσικό τρόπο, την υγρασία του
περιβάλλοντος.

In search of the ideal mattress
for my patients, I discovered
COCO-MAT and the orthosomatic
principle, which relies on a simple
fact. Our body and, especially
our vertebral column, must be
allowed to retain their natural
alignment during all activities.
And, although this is relatively
easy to achieve when we are
standing or walking, it gets
harder when we are sitting or
lying down.
A very firm mattress will push our
body, forcing the spine to adopt
an unnatural, rigid position, much
like as if lying on the floor. On the
other hand, a very soft mattress
will fail to properly support
the body and the spine which,
yielding to the weight of the
body, will again adopt an equally
unnatural curving position.
So, in essence, our mattress
should surrender to our body’s
needs and not the other way
around.
It is all a matter of (orthosomatic)
principle.
La ricerca del miglior materasso
per i miei pazienti, mi ha portato
alla scoperta della COCO-MAT
e del loro principio ortostatico.
In base a questo il nostro corpo
e, in modo particolare, la nostra
colonna vertebrale devono
mantenere senza ostacoli la loro
forma naturale (retta) in tutte
le nostre attività. E se questo
è facile, quando ad esempio
camminiamo, comincia ad
essere difficile se ci sediamo o ci
sdraiamo.
Un materasso molto duro
comprime il nostro corpo,
constringendo la colonna
vertebrale ad assumere
un’innaturale posizione diritta,
come se ci sdraiassimo sul
pavimento. Dall’altra parte, un
materasso molto morbido, non
può sostenere sufficientemente
la colonna vertebrale, che
venendo trascinata dal peso
del corpo assume una posizione
curva altrettanto innaturale.
Quindi, in altre parole, il
materasso deve recedere
alle esigenze del corpo e non
viceversa.
Si tratta di una questione di
principio (ortostatico).

Ποιεί τη διαφορά, διότι συνιστά
ένα σύστημα απορρόφησης
κραδασμών και διάχυσης της
πίεσης, που ασκεί το σώμα μας,
σ' ολόκληρη την έκταση του

The ergo-base is the
fundamental element of the
bed-mattress. It makes all the
difference, since it constitutes
a system which absorbs all
pressure, shock and friction and
expertly redistributes weight
equally across the surface of the
bed.
Hidden in the foundations of
the bed, beneath all the layers
of materials, the ergo-base
is exclusively handcrafted.
It consists of beechwood

Χρειάζεται να ξέρω τι καιρό

δουλειά μου με το ποδήλατο
και τις περισσότερες φορές
χρησιμοποιώ το ποδήλατο και για

Παλιότερα, έκανε μεγάλη
εντύπωση στους πελάτες,
όταν με έβλεπαν να τους

Every day, before I leave for
work, I always check the weather
report. I need to know about
the weather, so as to dress
accordingly since I go to work on
my bike. I also use it to make as
many deliveries as possible.
A few years ago, it was a big
surprise for customers to see
me deliver their mattresses on
a bicycle. They were asking me
how I came up with the idea. I
explained that we, in COCO-MAT,
respect the environment and
do everything we can to protect
it. Our mattresses are packed
and stored in fabric cases and
delivered in specially modified
bicycles. A while back, in Crete,
we actually made deliveries with
a donkey.
Lately of course, customers who
see me with the bike don't ask
so many questions any more.

and only expect to see if we are
actually true to our word.
And we make sure we don't let

Ogni mattina prima di partire

volte utilizzo la bicicletta per le

All’inizio faceva grande

come mi era venuta l'idea.
Gli spiegavo che alla COCOMAT rispettiamo l'ambiente e

of our body is different in weight
and shape from the rest and this

Choosing the right pillow is as
important as choosing the right
mattress. The right pillow is
one which provides proper neck
support. While sleeping, our head
and neck should be supported
by the pillow in such a way so
as to ensure they maintain their
natural position.
Choosing the right pillow, though,
also depends on the mattress we
are using. An elastic mattress
conforms to the body shape of
the sleeper and fills the curve of
the neck, thus reducing the need
for extra support from a thick
pillow. The same thing happens
if we’re using a top-mattress.
Conversely, if we are sleeping
without the added support of a
top-mattress or on a less elastic
mattress we need a thicker
pillow to provide ample support
and keep the neck in the correct
position during sleep.

When I first met the people at
COCO-MAT, I was impressed by
their hospitable feelings. Simply
by entering a COCO-MAT shop
-in Greece and abroad- anyone
automatically becomes a friend
and is treated more as a friend
than as a customer. People
visiting our shops are treated to
homemade pies, local traditional
delicacies, fresh fruits and juices,
and then we talk with them; we
listen to them. With a heartfelt

we get lost in the moment, the

Che cosa è la filoxenia? Filoxenia
è il dare tutto quello che hai
al tuo ospite, senza neanche
preoccuparti se rimane qualcosa
per te. Dare generosamente
prima con il cuore e poi con
le mani. Questo è quello che
abbiamo imparato dai nostri
nonni e dalle nostre madri
come hanno imparato loro dai
loro. Penso che tutti noi greci,
abbiamo l’ospitalità come un
vizio, un istinto, un destino o un
sesto senso.
Quando ho conosciuto la gente
della COCO-MAT, la prima
cosa che mi ha colpito è stato
il senso dell’ospitalità. Anche
solamente entrando una persona
in un negozio della COCO-MAT,
- in Grecia ma anche all'estero
- automaticamente diventa e
viene trattata più come amico
che come cliente. Gli offriamo
torte fatte in casa, tradizionali
prelibatezze locali, freschi succhi
di frutta, parliamo con lui e lo
ascoltiamo. Per l’onore fattoci
solamente con la sua visita,
spontaneamente, di cuore, ci
lasciamo andare a socializzare e
dimentichiamo... la vendita...
Personalmente, sento veramente
una gioia inesprimibile
nell’organizzare o nel partecipare
a diversi eventi che ospita la

Optimistic for a reason
Γνώρισα την COCO-MAT τυχαία,
ή ίσως μοιραία, μετά από μια
επίσκεψή μου σε ένα ξενοδοχείο
εξοπλισμένο με προϊόντα της. Το
πρώτο πράγμα που έκανα μόλις
ξύπνησα ήταν να μάθω σε τι
στρώμα κοιμήθηκα και ποια ήταν
η εταιρεία που το έφτιαξε. Σήμερα
είμαι ιδιοκτήτρια δύο πολύ
επιτυχημένων καταστημάτων
COCO-MAT στην Ισπανία, στη
Μαδρίτη και τη Βαρκελώνη.
Έχοντας δοκιμάσει και η ίδια το
test sleep, βρίσκω την ιδέα απλά
καταπληκτική. Γιατί το κρεβάτι
και το στρώμα είναι κάπως σαν
τα παπούτσια. Πριν αγοράσεις
κάτι πρέπει να δεις αν σου κάνει,
αν είναι άνετο για σένα. Πώς
όμως μπορείς να το ξέρεις αυτό
από πριν, αν δεν το δοκιμάσεις;
Απλώς και μόνο επειδή το λέει
κάποιος πωλητής; Ε, λοιπόν,
σίγουρα το να κοιμηθείς σε ένα
ξενοδοχείο με τα στρώματά
μας μπορεί να σε πείσει πολύ
καλύτερα.
Τελευταία, όλο και περισσότερα
ξενοδοχεία σε όλη την Ευρώπη
αναζητούν τα ποιοτικά προϊόντα
μας, δίνοντας τη δυνατότητα
σε υποψήφιους πελάτες να
δοκιμάσουν τα κρεβάτια μας.
Γι’ αυτό είμαι πολύ αισιόδοξη.
Πιστεύω ότι πολύ σύντομα θα
μπορούμε να προσφέρουμε στους
φίλους μας τη δυνατότητα να
δοκιμάσουν τα στρώματά μας σε
ένα ξενοδοχείο σε οποιοδήποτε
μέρος του κόσμου.
I got to know COCO-MAT after
spending a night in a hotel with
COCO-MAT beds. The first thing I
did when I woke up was to check
the mattress and find out more
about the company that made it.
Today I have crossed the line on
to the other side.
As the master-franchisee of
COCO-MAT in Spain, I own and
run two very successful stores
in Barcelona and Madrid. Having
experienced it first-hand, I find
COCO-MAT’s test-sleep idea
simply brilliant. Because buying a
mattress is in many ways similar
to buying a shoe. It has to suit
you. And it has to be comfortable.
How can you know that, though,
simply because a salesman tells
you so? Well, spending the night
in hotels that carry our products
certainly is a much stronger
argument.
Lately, an increasing number of
fine hotels around Europe are
seeking for our quality products,
giving potential customers the
chance to test our beds first
hand. So I am fairly certain that
pretty soon our friends will be
able to experience COCO-MAT’s
beds in hotels all over the world.

Ho avuto modo di conoscere la
COCO-MAT, per caso o forse per destino, dopo aver trascorso una notte in un albergo equipaggiato con i
suoi prodotti. La prima cosa che ho
fatto quando mi sono svegliata era
quella di controllare il materasso
e scoprire di più sulla società che
lo aveva fatto. Oggi ho superato la
linea passando dall’ altro lato.
Oggi sono proprietaria di due negozi della COCO-MAT di grandisssimo
successo in Spagna, a Madrid ed
a Barcellona. Avendolo usato di
persona, trovo l’ idea della provasonno semplicemente brillante.
Perchè, il letto ed il materasso
sono un poco come le scarpe. Prima di acquistarle devi provare se ti
vanno bene, e se sono comode per
te. Ma come fai a saperlo in anticipo, se non le provi? Semplicemente
perchè un venditore te lo dice?
Sicuramente, il passare una notte
in un albergo che fa uso dei nostri
materassi potrà convincerti meglio.
Ultimamente sempre più alberghi
in tutta Europa sono alla ricerca
dei nostri prodotti di qualità, dando
la possibilità ai potenziali clienti di
provare i nostri letti. Perciò sono
molto ottimista. Credo che abbastanza presto potremo offrire ai
nostri amici la possibilità di provare
i nostri materassi negli albergi di
qualsiasi parte del mondo.

Έφθασα στην Ελλάδα το 2005
και ενσωματώθηκα στην
COCO-MAT το 2009. Είμαι καναδοκινέζα, αλλά ένα μεγάλο
κομμάτι της καρδιάς μου ανήκει
στους Έλληνες. Διάβασα τον
Όμηρο, θαύμασα τον Οδυσσέα και
στους σημερινούς Έλληνες βλέπω τους αληθινούς απογόνους
τους.
Ενστερνίστηκα την εξωστρέφεια
της COCO-MAT, τη φιλοσοφία
της, τις ιδέες της για ανθρωποκεντρική ανάπτυξη. Γερό σκαρί η
COCO-MAT αρμενίζει περήφανα,
διακινώντας τα προϊόντα της στα
πέρατα της γης. Κυρίως όμως,
διαλαλεί τον ανεκτίμητο ελληνικό
πολιτισμό της φιλοξενίας, της
ανεκτικότητας, της συνεργασίας.
Στην Αμερική, στην Κίνα, στον
Αραβικό κόσμο, σ’ ολόκληρη την
Ευρώπη. Κάθε γωνιά του κόσμου
και ένα χαμόγελο. Πήγαινα, θυμάμαι, κάποτε από τη Νέα Υόρκη
- όπου είχα βρεθεί για να γνωρίσω το κατάστημα της COCO-MAT
στο Μπροντγουέι - στη Σαγκάη,
για να επισκεφθώ το κατάστημα
εκεί, όταν ένας αμερικανός επιχειρηματίας, στο αεροδρόμιο, με
ρώτησε: «Μα καλά, δουλεύεις σε
ελληνική εταιρεία; Δεν φοβάσαι;»
Του απάντησα πως όχι, δεν φοβάμαι τίποτα, γιατί οι Έλληνες έρχονται από παλιά, από πολύ παλιά,
από πάρα πολύ παλιά…
I came to Greece in 2005 and
joined COCO-MAT in 2009. I'm
Canadian-Chinese by origin, but
a large part of my heart belongs
to the Greeks. I read Homer,
admired Odysseus and looking at
the Greeks today I can see their
true descendants.
