Il primo evento del nuovo ciclo si svolge a Roma, città europea per eccellenza, indissolubilmente legata alla cultura greca e origine della civiltà greco-romana. È per questo motivo che abbiamo scelto i versi di Yiorgos Gotis quale motto del nostro colloquio. Il progetto dei Dialoghi Ateniesi rimane fedele all’iniziale orientamento multidisciplinare e alla sua prospettiva diacronica. Il punto di partenza continua a essere l’uomo contemporaneo, i problemi e gli stimoli del contesto in cui vive e le sue aspirazioni. Questi incontri si propongono di aprire un dialogo che probabilmente esula dagli ambiti prettamente accademici e artistici. Ci auguriamo di essere all’altezza degli scopi che ci siamo dati. Prof. George Babiniotis Presidente del Comitato Organizzatore Τ he Organizing Committee of the Athens Dialogues upon the completion of four years from the launching of the Project in November 2010, at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens, announces the commencement of its second phase that will revolve around the topic RE-THINK THE PAST. To this topic we shall dedicate the first event of the new cycle that will take place in Rome, the emblematic European city, so intrinsically linked with Greek culture for the formation of GrecoRoman civilization. It is precisely for this reason that we chose this part of Yiorgos Gotis’ poetry as a motto to our colloquium. The Athens Dialogues project remains faithful to its multidisciplinary orientation as well as to its diachronic perspective. Our point of departure remains the modern man and woman – his and her context and challenging milieu – his and her aspirations. We are here in order to create bridges and dialogues that would probably fall outside the scope of an academic or artistic milieu. We hope to prove worthy of our title. Σε αυτό θα είναι αφιερωμένη η πρώτη εκδήλωση του νέου κύκλου που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στη Ρώμη, την εμβληματική ευρωπαϊκή πόλη, που είναι τόσο άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένη με τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό και που οδήγησε στη δημιουργία του ελληνορωμαϊκού πολιτισμού. Γι’ αυτόν ακριβώς τον λόγο επιλέξαμε αυτούς τους στίχους του Γιώργου Γώτη ως σήμα κατατεθέν της ημερίδας μας. Το έργο των Διαλόγων των Αθηνών παραμένει πιστό στον διεπιστημονικό προσανατολισμό του καθώς και στη διαχρονική προσέγγισή του. Το σημείο εκκίνησής μας παραμένει ο σύγχρονος άνθρωπος - η πρόκληση του περιβάλλοντος πολιτισμικού του χώρου και οι φιλοδοξίες του. Είμαστε εδώ για να δημιουργήσουμε γέφυρες και διαλόγους που θα μπορούσαν ενδεχομένως να ξεφύγουν από τη σκοπιά του ακαδημαϊκού ή του αμιγώς καλλιτεχνικού κόσμου. Guarda al passato in una prospettiva attuale: un patrimonio umano da valorizzare e sviluppare, che influenza e condiziona identità, atteggiamenti e modalità di pensiero. Il nostro augurio è che i Dialoghi Ateniesi, con questo evento ospitato dal Museo Nazionale Romano in Palazzo Altemps il 1 dicembre 2014, stabiliscano un dialogo continuativo con Roma, nella speranza che questo evento sia soltanto il primo di una lunga serie di incontri tesi a indagare la ricezione del passato e l’importanza degli studi umanistici nel mondo contemporaneo. T his colloquium aims to address issues pertaining to the topic of interaction of modern man with cultural heritage in the context of the modern city. It entails questions of approaching the past from a modern perspective as material to handle, to develop in a human way that affects identities but also attitudes and ways of thought. Let’s allow the Athens Dialogues establish a dialogue with Rome in this event that will be hosted at the Museo Nazionale Romano in Palazzo Altemps on the 1st of December 2014 and let’s hope that this event will be the first of a series that will explore the reception of the past and the relevance of humanities to the modern world. Η ημερίδα έχει ως στόχο να διερευνήσει ζητήματα που άπτονται της αλληλεπίδρασης του σύγχρονου ανθρώπου με την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά, εντός του πλαισίου μιας σύγχρονης πόλης. Εστιάζοντας σε ερωτήματα προσέγγισης του παρελθόντος από μια σύγχρονη προοπτική θα επιχειρήσει να αξιοποιήσει αυτό το υλικό και να το αναπτύξει περαιτέρω με έναν ανθρώπινο τρόπο που επηρεάζει την ταυτότητα, τη στάση και τον τρόπο σκέψης. Ας αφήσουμε τους Διαλόγους των Αθηνών να καθιερώσουν έναν διάλογο με τη Ρώμη σε αυτή την εκδήλωση, που θα φιλοξενηθεί από το Museo Nazionale Romano στο Palazzo Altemps την 1η Δεκεμβρίου 2014 και ας ελπίσουμε ότι αυτή η ημερίδα θα είναι η πρώτη από μια σειρά εκδηλώσεων, που σκοπό θα έχουν να εξετάσουν την πρόσληψη του παρελθόντος και τη σημασία των ανθρωπιστικών επιστημών στο σύγχρονο κόσμο. Rethink the past from the point of view of the new sources that see the light and the old sources that we approach from new perspectives. con otto istituzioni accademiche di portata mondiale (Institut de France, Accademia dei Lincei, University of Oxford, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, Center for Hellenic Studies - Harvard University e Accademia di Atene) ha segnato, nel novembre 2010, l’inaugurazione del Centro Culturale Onassis, con la partecipazione di insigni studiosi provenienti da tutto il mondo. Il convegno ha avuto molto successo, con più di 50.000 partecipanti, presenti di persona o tramite Internet. Gli interventi di Athens Dialogues 2010 sono stati pubblicati su una piattaforma elettronica originale, su cui è stata incorporata per la prima volta una serie di applicazioni che permette all’utente di recuperare informazioni pertinenti al contenuto degli articoli. In altre parole questa piattaforma elettronica d’avanguardia, progettata appositamente per Athens Dialogues - Dialoghi Ateniesi, pubblica i saggi e le presentazioni dei relatori, lasciando spazio a un dialogo aperto fra il pubblico e gli studiosi, grazie a un’applicazione che segna una nuova era per i media elettronici. I testi sono arricchiti con vari link e possono essere utilizzati in molteplici modi. Curatori della rivista sono il Prof. Gregory Nagy, Direttore del CHS - Harvard University e il Prof. George Babiniotis, Presidente del Comitato organizzatore di Athens Dialogues - Dialoghi Ateniesi, mentre la Dr. Niki Tsironis funge da redattore esecutivo. The conference was well received with more than 50.000 people participating either live or through the web. More information on the Athens Dialogues project is available at www.athensdialogues.org. One of the most interesting features of the project was its electronic journal (http://www.athensdialogues.org/ejournal/about-the-e-journal), edited by the Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University, renowned for its pioneer work on digital humanities. The papers of the Athens Dialogues 2010 were uploaded on an original electronic platform where for the first time a number of applications were embedded and which allow users to retrieve information relevant to the content of the article. In other words, this pioneering electronic platform, which was designed especially for the Athens Dialogues, publishes the essays and the presentations of the speakers allowing space for the open dialogue between the audience and the scholars, which signals a new era for electronic media. The texts are enriched with various links and can be used in multiple ways. Οι επιστημονικές εργασίες που παρουσιάστηκαν στους Διαλόγους των Αθηνών του 2010 ανέβηκαν σε αυτή την πρωτότυπη ηλεκτρονική πλατφόρμα, όπου για πρώτη φορά είχε ενσωματωθεί ένας αριθμός εργαλείων, τα οποία επιτρέπουν στους χρήστες να ανακτούν πληροφορίες σχετικά με το περιεχόμενο του κάθε άρθρου. Με άλλα λόγια, η πρωτοποριακή αυτή ηλεκτρονική πλατφόρμα που σχεδιάστηκε ειδικά για τους Διαλόγους φιλοξενεί τα κείμενα των ανακοινώσεων, τις παρουσιάσεις τους αλλά και τον ανοιχτό διάλογο επιστημόνων και κοινού σε μία εφαρμογή που σηματοδοτεί τη νέα εποχή των ηλεκτρονικών μέσων. Τα κείμενα είναι εμπλουτισμένα με συνδέσεις περιε- χομένου και προσφέρονται για πολλαπλές χρήσεις. Υπεύθυνοι σύνταξης του ηλεκτρονικού περιοδικού είναι ο καθηγητής Gregory Nagy, Διευθυντής του Κέντρου Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου του Χάρβαρντ και o καθηγητής Γεώργιος Μπαμπινιώτης, Πρόεδρος της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής των Διαλόγων των Αθηνών, ενώ ο Δρ Νίκη Τσιρώνη ενεργεί ως εκτελεστική συντάκτρια. Από το 2011 έως το 2014, κοινός θεματικός άξονας των Διαλόγων ήταν ο σύγχρονος άνθρωπος και τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζει ιδωμένα υπό το πρίσμα της ελληνικής σκέψης στη διαχρονία της. Nel quadro delle sue attività a favore della cultura, la Fondazione ha inaugurato, nel 2010, il Centro Culturale la cui missione è finalizzata a promuovere la cultura moderna, aiutare i giovani artisti greci, dare vita a collaborazioni internazionali, offrire un’educazione ai ragazzi e una formazione continua a soggetti di ogni età, in uno spazio aperto e accessibile a tutti. Il Convegno Dialoghi Ateniesi è stato organizzato per la prima volta nel 2010 in collaborazione con otto autorevoli istituzioni accademiche greche e straniere. Oggi, i Dialoghi sono diventati un programma interdisciplinare volto allo studio dei rapporti tra cultura greca e mondo moderno. Nel 2014, il Comitato Organizzatore dei Dialoghi ha deciso di organizzare una serie di manifestazioni focalizzate su tematiche cruciali per l’uomo moderno, creando una piattaforma di discussione e dibattito su temi legati alla quotidianità in una prospettiva la più ampia possibile. La Fondazione Onassis promuove la cultura greca anche al di là dei confini nazionali: specificatamente negli Stati Uniti e in Canada, tramite la filiale della Fondazione nella Torre Olimpica di New York, la quale organizza dal 2000, anno di apertura, conferenze, importanti mostre archeologiche e un programma di visite di docenti in Università dell’America del nord e del sud oltre che in Canada. Nello stesso ambito, la Fondazione offre il proprio aiuto economico a sedi universitarie, facoltà e programmi in Europa, USA, Canada, America latina, Africa, Australia e Asia, dove si insegna il greco. Sovvenziona, inoltre, scuole di livello primario e secondario in Europa e negli USA dove si insegna il greco antico e l’antica cultura greca. Uno dei principali programmi della Fondazione è l’elargizione di Borse di studio a cittadini greci per percorsi post laurea e di ricerca in Grecia e all’estero nonché a cittadini stranieri per percorsi post laurea e di ricerca in Grecia. Fino al 2014, sono state elargite complessivamente 5.440 Borse di studio a studenti greci e 800 a stranieri. L’Associazione dei Borsisti, con la partecipazione di circa 1.800 ex Borsisti e il contributo economico della Fondazione organizza convegni, conferenze, manifestazioni culturali e scientifiche. Nel campo della solidarietà sociale e della sanità, la Fondazione ha, nel 1992, donato allo Stato greco il Centro di Cardiochirurghia modello Onassis (CCO) completamente attrezzato. Si tratta del primo ospedale certificato in Grecia per interventi di cardiochirurgia e cardiologia per adulti e bambini. Altre opere umanitarie della Fondazione includono sovvenzioni a Enti quali ELPIDA (tradotto in italiano: Speranza, istituzione attiva nell’aiutare i bambini ammalati di tumore) e la Società ellenica per la protezione e la riabilitazione dei bambini (ELEPAP). Un altro aspetto importantissimo dell’opera della Fondazione è l’istituzione, dal 1978, di Premi internazionali consegnati a persone e istituzioni il cui contributo alla cultura, la società e l’ambiente è ritenuto prezioso. Oggi, la Fondazione assegna il Premio Internazionale Onassis per la Marina, il Commercio e la Finanza, in collaborazione con la Cass Business School della City University di Londra e la City di Londra. In collaborazione con l’Istituto di Tecnologia e di Ricerca dell’Università di Creta, la Fondazione Onassis organizza, una volta all’anno, una serie di seminari di altissimo livello scientifico intitolati «The Onassis Foundation Science Lecture Series». Le presentazioni coprono tematiche di avanguardia nella scienza e nella ricerca, correlate ai seguenti settori delle scienze applicate - Fisica, Biologia, Chimica, Informatica, Matematica. Inoltre, dal 2009, la Fondazione Onassis rappresenta la Grecia in qualità di collaboratore accademico negli Incontri Scientifici per la Fisica, la Chimica, la Medicina, la Fisiologia e le scienze economiche, organizzati ogni anno a Lindau in Germania dal Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings e dalla Fondazione Lindau Nobel prize winners Meetings sul lago di Costanza. Infine, nel 2012, la Fondazione Onassis, nell’ambito della sua opera umanitaria ha accolto la proposta della pubblica amministrazione di organizzare una Gara di Architettura e di finanziare tutti gli studi volti al progetto Rethink Athens. L’obiettivo del progetto è di migliorare la vita quotidiana dei cittadini creando le condizioni essenziali per il recupero ambientale; di offrire un microclima più idoneo con piantagioni di alberi, piante e ripari; di offrire servizi più qualificati al cittadino con mezzi di trasporto pubblici ecologici che riducano le emissioni inquinanti e siano rispettosi di pedoni e ciclisti. Questi interventi, abbinati a incentivi di varia natura, condurranno a un ribaltamento dell’odierno clima di degrado sociale ed economico, al restauro e al ripristino degli edifici, al recupero delle zone più centrali della città. RE-THINKTHEPAST RE-THINKTHEPAST THE ONASSIS FOUNDATION T he Onassis Foundation’s activities are multifarious, focused on key areas such as culture, education, environment, health and social solidarity. Within the framework of its activities for the promotion of culture, the Foundation established in 2010 the Onassis Cultural Centre. The Onassis Cultural Centre’s mission is to promote contemporary culture, to support young Greek artists, to cultivate international collaborations, to educate children and people of all ages through life-long learning. The Athens Dialogues 2010 conference was co-organized in collaboration with 8 leading world class academic institutions in Greece and abroad. Τhe Athens Dialogues project has evolved into an interdisciplinary program aiming to explore the relationship between Greek culture and the modern world. In 2014 the Organizational Committee of the Athens Dialogues has decided on the realization of a series of events that will focus on issues that are crucial for our modern society, offering a platform for discussing everyday life issues from a variety of perspectives as broad as possible. Today, the Foundation offers the Onassis International Prize in Shipping, Trade and Finance, in collaboration with the City of London and Cass Business School of the City University, London. Το Συνέδριο Οι Διάλογοι των Αθηνών πραγματοποιήθηκε για πρώτη φορά το 2010 σε συνεργασία με 8 έγκυρους ακαδημαϊκούς φορείς της Ελλάδας και του εξωτερικού. The Onassis Foundation, in association with the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH) of the University of Crete, organizes the “Onassis Foundation Science Lecture Series”, an annual series of high-level scientific lectures that cover the following applied sciences fields: physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computer science. The Onassis Foundation represents in Greece the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings since 2009, as the academic collaborator of the Scientific Meetings in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine or Physiology and Economics, that take place annually in Lindau, Germany. The annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings are organized by the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and the Foundation Lindau Nobelprizewinners Meetings at Lake Constance. Finally in 2012, within the framework of its public benefit activity, the Onassis Foundation responded to an official request made by the Greek State to fund and organise the Architectural Competition and all the relative technical studies to the Rethink Athens project. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of everyday life for the citizens by providing the conditions of environmental upgrade, restitution of the urban environment and improvement of the microclimate by planting trees, constructing shelters and prescribing the use of eco-friendly public means of transport which will reduce emissions and will create an inviting environment for both pedestrians and cyclists. Οι διαλέξεις καλύπτουν θέματα που αποτελούν αιχμή στη διεθνή επιστήμη και έρευνα και αφορούν στους κλάδους των θετικών επιστημών - Φυσική, Βιολογία, Χημεία, Πληροφορική, Μαθηματικά. Το Ίδρυμα Ωνάση προβάλλει τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό και εκτός συνόρων. Όλα αυτά, σε συνδυασμό με ευρύτερα κίνητρα, θα οδηγήσουν στην αντιστροφή του κλίματος κοινωνικής και οικονομικής υποβάθμισης, στην αποκατάσταση και την επαναλειτουργία των κτιρίων, και στην αναζωογόνηση των πιο κεντρικών περιοχών της πόλης. Από τα βασικά προγράμματα του Ιδρύματος είναι η χορήγηση υποτροφιών σε Έλληνες για διδακτορικές και μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές και σε αλλοδαπούς για μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές και έρευνα στην Ελλάδα. L’originaria architettura quattrocentesca delle sale del piano terreno conserva nelle volte gli stemmi della famiglia Riario. Nel 1568 il palazzo fu acquistato dal cardinale Marco Sittico Altemps che affidò ad architetti e artisti del tempo importanti lavori di ampliamento e decorazione. La preziosa raccolta di statue antiche e la notevole biblioteca, ospitate nelle splendide sale affrescate, rappresentavano il fasto e il gusto aristocratico della famiglia. Il palazzo ospita oggi famose collezioni di scultura antica: Altemps, Boncompagni Ludovisi, Brancaccio, del Drago Albani, Mattei, la Raccolta egizia e gli affreschi Pallavicini Rospigliosi. Archaeological excavations have uncovered Roman structures and finds dating from the 1st century AD to the modern age. The original 15th century architecture is conserved in the crests of the Riario family in the ground floor ceiling vaults. In 1568 the Palazzo came into the hands of Cardinal Marcus Sitticus Altemps, who commissioned architects and artists of the time to undertake significant work to extend and decorate the palace. The valuable collection of ancient sculptures and the famous library were housed in the fabulous frescoed rooms, reflecting the family’s wealth and taste. Today the Palazzo houses famous collections of ancient sculpture: Altemps, Boncompagni Ludovisi, Brancaccio, del Drago Albani, Mattei, the Egyptian Collection and the Pallavicini Rospigliosi frescoes.
