Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church Sunday, December 16, 2012 11th Sunday of Luke The Holy Forefathers Των Αγίων Προπατόρων Haggai the Prophet – Αγγαίου Προφήτου Theofano the Queen – Θεοφανούς Βασιλίσσης Modestos Archbishop of Jerusalem Μοδέστου Αρχιεπισκόπου Ιεροσολύμων Apolytikion of the Day (3rd Tone) Ευφραινέσθω τα ουράνια, αγαλλιάσθω τα επίγεια, ότι εποίησε κράτος, εν βραχίονι αυτού, ο Κύριος. Επάτησε τω θανάτω τον θάνατον. Πρωτότοκος των νεκρών εγένετο. Εκ κοιλίας Άδου ερρύσατο ημάς, και παρέσχε τω κόσμω το μέγα έλεος. Let the heavens sing for joy, and let everything on earth be glad. For with His Arm the Lord has worked power. He trampled death under foot by means of death; and He became the firstborn from the dead. From the maw of Hades He delivered us; and He granted the world His great mercy. Apolytikion of Saint Katherine the Great Martyr (1st Plagios Tone) Την πανεύφημον νύμφην Χριστού υμνήσωμεν, Αικατερίναν την θείαν και πολιούχον Σινά, την βοήθειαν ημών και αντιληψιν, ότι εφίμωσε λαμπρώς, τους κομψούς των ασεβών, του Πνεύματος τη δυνάμει. Και ως μάρτυς του Κυρίου στεφθείσα, αιτείται πάσι, το μέγα έλεος. The all-blessed bride of Christ let us extol in song, Katherine the divine and protectress of Sinai, the assistance and helper of all of us; for she muzzled brilliantly, the ungodly clever men, by the power of the Spirit. And now crowned as Martyr, she pleads great mercy for all of us. Kontakion of the Day (4th Tone) Η Παρθένος σήμερον, τον προαιώνιον Λόγον, εν Σπηλαίω έρχεται, αποτεκείν απορρήτως. Χόρευε, η οικουμένη ακουτισθείσα. Δόξασον, μετά Αγγέλων και των Ποιμένων, βουληθέντα εποφθήναι, παιδίον νέον, τον προ αιώνων Θεόν. Today the Virgin comes, unto a Cave, to give birth ineffably to the Word pre-eternal. Hearing this, be of good cheer, all earth and its people; glorify Him, with the Angels and the Shepherds, whose will was to be made, manifest as a young child, the pre-eternal God. Rev. Fr. For you are just in all you have done. The reading is from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Colossians. Colossians 3:4-11 – Brethren, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you; immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you once walked when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all Gospel Reading Luke 14:16-24, Matthew 22:1-4 – The Lord said this parable: “A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for all is now ready.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.’ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.’ And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and there is still room.’ And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen.’” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GOYA – A Second Tray will be passed this morning by the GOYAns and proceeds will be used to purchase McDonald’s gift cards as part of GOYA’s “Feed the Homeless on Christmas Day.” GOYA is serving church duty this morning during the second Liturgy.
