Dear IS Modena families,
Early Dismissal this Friday at 13:00
Planning afternoon this Friday for all our teaching staff. Our Middle Years team will be
working on the completion of DP course outlines for the subjects that we will offer
supported by Mr. Iain Sachdev (Principal of Upper Years IS Milan & Interim DP Coordinator
Designate IS Modena) and Mr. Robert Partington (DP Coordinator at IS Milan).
Italian beginners class with Ms. Zini – Mondays from 13:45 to 14:45
Trial lesson today October 6 from 13:45 to 14:45. (minimum 4 participants)
We are also planning on offering English classes for parents (beginners and intermediate)
with Mr. Kay. Please contact the office if you are interested in learning English (minimum 4
participants).
Women’s Volleyball World Championship Italy 2014 – Wednesday, October 1
Great experience for our students and families – A big thank you to Mr. Franco Bertoli for
organising our opportunity to watch the games!
Curriculum Guides
We remind you that our Primary Years and Middle Years curriculum guides are available
online in the “Learning at IS Modena” section on our school website.
Mother Tongue Programmes sessions for German, Portuguese and Spanish starting this
week.
OPEN DAY COMING UP – Saturday, October 18th – regular school day
We run two big Open Days every school year, one in October and one in January. Prospective
parents have the opportunity of visiting the school which will be running a normal school
day. They will be accompanied on tours by Middle Years students, current IS Modena parents
and staff. They will be able to peek into the classrooms and have a better idea of the unique
teaching environment at IS Modena. Details of the day can be found further into the
newsletter.
These two Open Days are part of the required school calendar days, not additional days.

INFORMATION
Bus Service
Bus routes are determined by the bus company who try to provide the most efficient route
possible. Please be aware that your child can be on the bus for up to 1 hour each trip.
As part of improving overall safety and efficiency a number of rules for the bus have been
developed:
 Students should be ready for the bus a couple of minutes before their assigned pick-up time.
 Ensure shoes are clean.
 Parents are responsible for ensuring their child is on the bus in the morning.
 Parents must advise the bus company if their child is not taking the bus.
 The school is responsible for ensuring students get on the bus at the end of the school day.
Please note that buses may leave from school any time from 15:10 to 15:20 in the afternoon.
 The school requires a note or email from parents before 14:00 if they are intending to
collect their child from school and transport is not required. Without notification students
will be put on the bus.
 Students are not allowed to change bus routes for any reason.
 If there is an emergency, then the School Manager should be contacted and alternative
arrangements will be made.
 Changes in the bus schedules may take place to accommodate new students. We hope you
appreciate the bus company try their best to keep these to a minimum.
 Students must remain seated with their seatbelts fastened at all times while on the bus.
Respectful behaviour on the buses is expected from all students.
 Should a child repeatedly misbehave on the bus, then the bus company and the school might
agree to have the bus service suspended for that child for a couple of days.
Celebrating student birthdays in school
We welcome the celebration of birthdays in our school however, there are a few guidelines that
need to be observed:
a) We will admit into school grounds only “nut free” birthday cakes or pastries and they will have
to be purchased goods and not homemade.
b) You will have to inform the school office at least 3 days prior to the date you wish to bring
the cake to school. Written communication via mail is preferable.
c) To avoid disruption in class, students will be allowed to bring cakes and pastries onto school
grounds ONLY on birthday occasions.
Please refrain from giving your child/children any cakes/tarts/pies and pastries to be shared with
classmates.
The well being of our students is our upmost priority and due to the presence of various
allergies in our community, students are not allowed to share food.

HEALTH & SAFETY
Security
The safety and security of your children is extremely important to us.
All parents and visitors must sign in at the office when entering the school
building and sign out when leaving.
We ask all parents to use the outer parking lot and enter through the small
gate. Please help us in ensuring that the small gate is closed at all times. The
school has an evacuation procedure which will be used in the case of either
fire or other security alert. Regular fire and earthquake drills take place
throughout the school year.
OUR SCHOOL IMPLEMENTS A STRICT NUT-FREE POLICY
No food containing any type of nuts or nut traces is allowed in the school
building at any time.
Please note: Nutella does contain nuts.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping everyone in our school healthy and
safe.
Snacks/Drinks: Please note that students may bring healthy snacks or fruit to
enjoy during their breaks.
Sweets, crisps and high sugar drinks (Coke, Sprite, Ice-Tea) are not
allowed.
No gum is permitted anywhere in the building or on the school grounds.
Early Years students bring only fruit.

Uscita anticipata per gli studenti, questo venerdì ore 13:00
Pomeriggio di pianificazione accademica per tutto il corpo docente. Il Middle Years team
sarà impegnato nel completamento delle linee guida dei corsi che offriremo per il Diploma
con il supporto di Mr. Iain Sachdev (Preside Classi Superiori IS Milan & Coordinatore

Lezioni di Italiano per principianti con Ms. Zini – lunedì dalle 13:45 alle 14:45
Lezione di prova, oggi, lunedì 6 ottobre dalle 13:45 alle 14:45. (minimo 4 partecipanti).
Siamo anche disponibili ad organizzare lezioni di Inglese (principianti e intermedi) con Mr.

Campionato Mondiale di Volley Femminile – Italia 2014 – mercoledì 1 ottobre
Esperienza fantastica per i ns. studenti e genitori – un sentito ringraziamento al sig. Franco
Bertoli per aver organizzato la ns. partecipazione alle partite!
Guide Curriculari
Ricordiamo ai ns. Genitori che le guide curriculari sono disponibili sul sito della scuola nella
sezione “Apprendimento a IS Modena”.
Prendono il via oggi i programmi Lingua Madre per Tedesco, Portoghese e Spagnolo
IN ARRIVO L’OPEN DAY – Sabato, 18 ottobre – giornata scolastica regolare
Ogni anno si svolgono due grandi Open Days a scuola, uno in ottobre e uno a gennaio. I
genitori interessati a scoprire la ns. realtà scolastica avranno l’opportunità di visitare la
scuola durante una normale giornata di scuola. Saranno accompagnati nei tours da studenti
della Medie, attuali genitori di IS Modena e ns. staff. Avranno l’opportunità di sbirciare nelle
classi e avere un’idea più chiara dell’unicità del ns. ambiente scolastico. I dettagli della
giornata sono descritti più avanti la newsletter.
Questi due Open Days sono parte integrante del calendario scolastico, non sono giornate
aggiuntive.

IMPORTANTI
Servizio bus
I giri delle navette sono definiti dalla ditta del trasporto bus che cerca di fornire il percorso più
efficiente possibile. Siate consapevoli che Vostro figlio può dover restare sul bus fino ad un’ora per
ogni viaggio.
Nel tentativo di migliorare la sicurezza e l’efficienza, sono state sviluppate alcune regole per l’uso
del bus:
 Gli studenti devono essere pronti per il bus un paio di minuti prima dell’orario di raccolta a loro
assegnato.
 Assicurarsi che le scarpe siano pulite.
 I genitori hanno la responsabilità di garantire che i figli prendano il pulmino al mattino.
 I Genitori devono informare la ditta del bus se il loro figlio non prenderà il bus.
 La scuola ha la responsabilità di assicurarsi che gli studenti salgano sul pulmino alla fine della
giornata scolastica. I pulmini possono partire dalla scuola in qualsiasi momento tra le 15:10 e le
15:20.
 La scuola richiede un messaggio o una mail da parte dei genitori entro le 14:00 se intendono
venire a prendere i bambini a scuola e se non richiedono il servizio. Salvo diversa
comunicazione, i bambini saranno messi sul pulmino.
 Agli studenti non è permesso cambiare pulmino per alcun motivo. In caso di emergenza, allora
deve essere contattata la School Manager e saranno apportate modifiche.
 Cambiamenti nell’orario del bus possono essere fatti per accogliere nuovi studenti. Speriamo
apprezziate lo sforzo della ditta del bus nel contenere i cambiamenti.
 Gli studenti devono restare seduti con le cinture allacciate per tutto il tempo che sono sul bus.
Gli studenti devono avere un comportamento educato sul bus.
 Se uno studente dovesse ripetutamente comportarsi male sul bus, la ditta del trasporto e la
scuola potrebbero concordare di sospendere il servizio bus per quel bambino per un paio di
giorni.
Celebrare il compleanno degli studenti a scuola
I festeggiamenti dei compleanni sono benaccetti nella nostra scuola, tuttavia ci sono alcune linee
guida da seguire:
a) Possiamo accettare a scuola solo torte o dolci “senza frutta a guscio” e devono essere
acquistati e non fatti in casa.
b) Dovrete informare la segreteria almeno 3 giorni prima della data in cui intendete portare la
torta a scuola. Una comunicazione scritta è preferibile.
c) Per evitare interruzioni nelle lezioni, agli studenti è permesso portare a scuola torte e dolci
SOLO in occasione di compleanni.
Vi invitiamo ad evitare di dare a vostro figlio torte/crostate/dolci da condividere con i compagni di
classe.
Il benessere dei nostri studenti è la nostra priorità assoluta e vista la presenza di varie allergie
nella nostra comunità, agli studenti non è permesso condividere cibo.

Salute & Sicurezza
Sicurezza
La sicurezza e l’incolumità dei nostri bambini è estremamente importante.
Tutti i genitori e i visitatori devono registrarsi in segreteria quando entrano
a scuola e devono segnare l’uscita quando escono. Chiediamo a tutti i
genitori di usare il parcheggio esterno e di entrare dal cancellino. Vi
chiediamo di assicurarvi che il cancellino sia sempre chiuso. La scuola ha una
propria procedura di evacuazione in caso di incendio o di altro allarme di
sicurezza. Prove di evacuazione anti-incendio o anti-sismiche vengono
condotte regolarmente nel corso dell’anno scolastico.
NELLA NOSTRA SCUOLA E’ IN VIGORE UN RIGOROSO DIVIETO DI CONSUMO
DI FRUTTA A GUSCIO
Nessun alimento contenente frutta a guscio o tracce di frutta a guscio è
ammesso nell’edificio scolastico in qualsiasi momento.
NB: la Nutella contiene frutta a guscio.
Ringraziamo per la cooperazione nel mantenere un ambiente sano e sicuro
per tutti.
Merende/bevande: si prega di notare che gli studenti possono portare
merende sane o frutta da gustare durante le ricreazioni.
Caramelle, patatine e bevande gassate (Cola, Sprite e The Freddo) non
sono consentiti.
Non è permesso consumare gomme da masticare all’interno e all’esterno
della scuola.
Gli studenti delle Materne portano solo frutta.

REMINDERS
School activity starts at 8:30!
We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will
begin exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class. Please try to make an effort and
come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:10 onwards.
L’attività accademica inizia alle 8:30!
Vi ricordiamo che le lezioni iniziano alle 8.30 in punto. Ciò significa che le attività didattiche della
giornata iniziano proprio alle 8:30 e qualsiasi ritardatario si ritroverà ad interrompere
inevitabilmente il lavoro della classe. Vi invitiamo a cercare di arrivare prima delle 8.30, vi
ricordiamo che gli studenti possono arrivare dalle 8:10 in avanti.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Students are expected to wear the school uniform which consists of a blue polo shirt and a blue
sweatshirt. Students can wear the short sleeved polo shirt and winter jacket on top for outdoor
activities. Please make sure your children refrain from wearing personal sweatshirts, cardigans or
jumpers. Please refer to the Student-Parent Handbook for further information.
DIVISA DELLA SCUOLA
Gli studenti devono indossare la divisa della scuola composta da una polo a manica lunga e/o corta
e felpa blue. Gli studenti possono indossare la polo a maniche corte sotto al giaccone per le
attività esterne. Vi preghiamo di assicurarvi che i vs. figli non vengano a scuola con felpe, cardigan
e/o maglioni personali. Vi invitiamo a consultare lo Student-Parent Handbook per ulteriori
informazioni.
PARKING AREA
All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times.
Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don’t leave any personal belongings in
the car.
Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service.
PARCHEGGIO ESTERNO
Tutti i genitori devono utilizzare sempre il parcheggio all’esterno del cancello. Ricordatevi di
chiudere le portiere dell’auto e non lasciate borse e borsette in macchina. Il parcheggio interno è
riservato allo staff e ai bus scolastici.

Open Day on Saturday October 18th
from 9:00 to 15:00
Our next Open Day for prospective families is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th.
This will be a normal school day from 8:30-15:00, running a TUESDAY schedule, and
there will be regular lunch and bus service on that day. This event is being
publicized in the local newspapers (Gazzetta, Il Resto del Carlino, Prima Pagina and
Corriere Bologna) and on Radio Bruno, as well as via external newsletter and
Facebook.
Your participation as “currently enrolled parents” is the best way to promote our
school. Please consider joining us and a few of our students on that day to talk with
some of the prospective parents who will be visiting the school!

alle 15.00 con programmazione scolastica come un MARTEDI’, e mensa e servizio
bus regolarmente garantiti. L’Open Day verrà pubblicizzato su vari quotidiani locali

così come sulla newsletter esterna e su Facebook.
La vostra partecipazione come genitori di studenti già iscritti è la migliore
