　（ALTの原文を掲載しています） Hello everyone, this is Chris from Uoshima! I recently had a great opportunity to ride along the Shimanami Kaido! An old friend I hadn’t seen in years came out from Kyushu to visit and called up another friend from Onomichi, and together the three of us had a nice long weekend of exploration. We spent the first day in Onomichi, where our local friend showed us lots of interesting spots. Many places appeared to not have changed much since the Showa era, and as a fan of those aesthetics, I was very happy to be in such surroundings. We rode the ropeway up to Mount Senkoji and enjoyed the breathtaking view. We visited many small shops around town, and it seemed as if our local friend knew everyone! The next day, we got our rental bicycles and began our long trek. We got a late start waiting for the rain to let up, and were delayed further by my photographer friend from Kyushu stopping every few minutes to snap a few photos. It was a good opportunity for me to take some too, so I didn’t mind at all. We took well-deserved breaks getting ice cream and stopping by the beach. We relaxed at an onsen before enjoying a nice dinner at the guesthouse where we stayed, and we stayed up late talking before getting a good night’s sleep. The next day, we rode around the perimeter of Omishima, stopping at the museums along the way. Climbing the numerous hills was very tiring, but the resulting high-speed downhill ride made it worthwhile. By the time we returned to the cyclist center where we started our Omishima journey, it was already late in the afternoon. I had to think about getting back to Yuge to catch the last ferry home to Uoshima, so I had to say goodbye to my friends there. They continued on to Imabari, but my friend missed the last bus to Fukuyama and couldn’t take the Shinkansen back to Kyushu until the next morning! My luck fared better, and I made it home in time. All in all, it was an exciting three-day weekend. But man, that bicycle seat sure did make my butt hurt. 英会話教室今月の担当：クリストファー・レイジェー《弓　削》毎週月曜日　19:30 ～《生　名》毎週月曜日　9:00 ～《岩　城》毎週木曜日　20:00 ～《魚　島》毎週水曜日　19:30 ～弓削地域交流センター生名公民館岩城総合支所庁舎魚島開発総合センター皆さん、こんにちは！魚島のALTクリスです。この間、絶好のチャンスでしまなみ街道のサイクリング旅ができました！久しぶりの旧友が九州からやってきて、尾道の友達に連絡してから素敵な３人組で３連休の週末を探検して過ごせました。１日目は尾道で過ごしました。地元の友達にいろんな場所を案内してもらって、昭和時代からあまり変わっていない商店街や小さな店を見るだけで感動しました。僕がその時代の美的感覚のファンなのでその環境でご機嫌でした。千光寺山ロープウェイの景色も素晴らしかったです！後で町中の店どこへ行っても、地元の友達は皆の知り合いでした。顔が広いな。２日目、レンタサイクルを借りてから長い旅が始まった！雨がやむのを待っていたから、ちょっと遅くなりました。九州の友達は写真家なので、２～３分ごとに写真を撮るために止まってもっと遅くなりました。せっかくの良いチャンスだから僕も撮ろうかと思っていたので全然かまいませんでした。それに、アイスを食べに行ってビーチでのんびりしたこともいい休憩になりました。温泉で元気を取り戻してから民宿でご飯を食べて夜遅くまで話してから十分な睡眠を取りました。３日目、大三島の周囲にある３つの美術館に寄り道しながら、レンタサイクルを乗り回しました。上り坂で大変疲れましたが、後の急な坂道を降りるのは気持ちよくて努力のかいがありました。大三島の旅で始まったサイクリングセンターに戻った頃に、もう午後遅くなったと気付きました。僕がそろそろ帰りのフェリーのことをちゃんと考えないといけないことを伝えて、その場で友達とバイバイしました。あの二人はゴールの今治まで頑張りましたが、友達が福山行きバスの最終便に一足違いで乗れなかったから、翌日の朝の便で九州に帰ったそうです。僕は運がよかったので間に合って無事に魚島まで帰れました。最終的に、思い出の３連休の週末になりましたが、自転車のサドルのせいでお尻がすごく痛かったな～。左記のQRコードにアクセスすると、ＡＬＴコーナーの英文のリスニングができる音声ファイルが利用できます。ＡＬＴコーナー英文音声ファイルＵＲＬ https://soundcloud.com/kouhou-kamijima こんにちは町長です上村家には様々なペットがいます。犬（十五才）、金魚（最近、長男宅から引っ越してきました。）、猫（二匹。長男宅にいますが、金魚の天敵。）、メダカ（多数）。面倒を見ているのは結局妻や若嫁さんであり、私は単なる朝夕行うペットへの挨拶係です。犬は長男が中学に入学して間もなく家族の一員になった、映画「グレムリン」のギズモのように、水を浴びると元気に走り回る、耳の長い毛が蝶々のように見える「パピヨン」という犬種です。私がお風呂に入ると必ず浴槽の入り口の足拭きの上に陣取り、まじめに体を洗っているかを確認する係です。さすがに十四年目を迎えた頃から、高齢による為か監視係も怠りがちになり、階段も上れなくなってきましたが、我が家での地位は未だ妻の次のナンバー２です。ペットは人間と同じ生き物であり、面倒を見るのは大変ですが、それ以上に微笑みや感動、癒やしを与えてくれます。その行動を見ていると参考になることもたくさんあります。花や樹木も同じで、葉っぱも落ち、草も生えるなど手入れをするのは大変ですが、それ以上の恩恵を私達に与えてくれます。「合理的でないからこそ豊かさがある。」田舎である上島町は、そういうところを日本や世界中から求められているのではないでしょうか。 2015年７月　20
