Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and NACo Renew Public Lands Management Partnership Sign MOU to Continue, Strengthen Working Relationship WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the U.S. Forest Service (FS) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) have officially renewed their longstanding partnership thatallows them to tackle public lands issues across boundaries. By signing the Memorandum of Understanding, the BLM and FS recognize the important role counties play in locally based decision-making and the need to emphasize a landscape-level approach across local, state and federal boundaries.
Bureau of Land Management Vale District- The emergency closure dated August 10, 2012 has been rescinded. The fire activity on the Holloway fire is minimal and it has been determine that the land closure is no longer needed for public safety. However, the fire protection orders are still in effect for those lands. No off road travel, no campfires, no smoking, and a shovel / fire extinguisher are required in the vehicle.
Bureau of Land Management Director Bob Abbey announced today that James G. Kenna has been selected as the BLM's new California State Director. Kenna, who is currently the State Director for BLM in Arizona, will report to his new position in September. Kenna succeeds acting California State Director Jim Abbott.

"Presenting these awards is an opportunity for me to not only recognize the exemplary performances of individuals and organizations specifically, but to commend the Bureau as a whole," said Acting Director Mike Pool. "In recognizing our best and brightest with these awards, I am again reminded of what an extraordinary group of talented individuals we have working for the BLM." The Director's Awards Ceremony serves as an opportunity for the Washington Office to highlight the good work of different BLM state offices, and to communicate innovative best practices and policies across numerous BLM subject areas. Director Pool remarked on the award winners as a group, saying, "To these BLMers, my highest congratulations and thanks for your hard work, your drive, and your heart. The Bureau of Land Management is a better place with you in it, and we are fortunate to have you as colleagues."
Bureau of Land Management Acting Director Mike Pool announced today the selection of Jerome E. Perez as the BLM's new director for the agency's state office in Oregon and Washington. Perez is currently the Deputy Regional Forester for the U.S. Forest Service's Intermountain Region in Ogden, Utah. His starting date is yet to be determined. He succeeds former Oregon/Washington State Director Ed Shepard.

"Patricia comes to the BLM with a wealth of experience in natural resources management. Her interest in collaborative approaches to decision-making and excitement about working in a complex environment to accomplish important, on-the-ground work will be a great asset to the Coos Bay District's employees, partners, and communities," said State Director Jerry Perez.
