Fairtrade soft drinks all grouped
under the Karma Cola brand.

ABOUT KARMA
COLA
NOW THAT THE...
January blues are well and truly behind us, we have
noticed that things have really kicked into gear
for us here at Turners and we hope 2015 is so far
going well for you all too.
We have been seeing lots of new and exciting
products coming through our doors, none more so
that this month's front cover item, the refreshingly
ethical range of organic, Fairtrade soft drinks from
Karma Cola. We are sure these will be a big hit with
our customers and look forward to seeing how they
go down (excuse the pun).
Our main feature this month focuses on
what is available from us in individual portion
sizes. From single serving boxes of cereal to
complimentary sachets of sauces or seasoning,
most establishments use these miniature servings
in some shape or form, so we try to satisfy demand
with as many lines as possible.
On the cheese front this month we have decided
to celebrate all things alpine with a look at some of
our cheeses that have a connection with some of
Europe’s skiing hot spots...OK, Gloucester may not
be up there with Val d'Isère but their dry ski slope is
apparently quite impressive.
We welcome on board another new range of
glass bottled water in the form of Blenheim Palace
mineral water and at a competitive price we think it
is a good option if you are looking to switch.
All this and more in this month's issue so we hope
you enjoy it and remember to visit the blog if you
want to find out more.

SWEET POTATO NOODLES 400G
As the name would suggest,
these noodles are made from
sweet potato flour and are
similar to rice vermicelli, turning
transparent when cooked.
Typically used in the Korean
vegetable stir-fry dish japchae,
they are an excellent gluten
free alternative to wheat-based
noodles.
From the Cantabrian
region of Spain’s northern
coast, these fish are
carefully caught and hand
filleted then salt cured and
preserved in olive oil. Plump,
moist and buttery, these rich
fillets are intensely savoury
but not overpoweringly salty.

A wonderfully sweet yet smoky sauce,
from the well-known Tabasco brand, that
can also be used as a marinade. With

make this a fantastic addition to our BBQ

WHAT’S NEW?
CHEESE FROM
THE SLOPES
As
the ski
season around
Europe reaches its
peak, we thought we
would celebrate some of
the wonderful cheeses that come
from those high reaching (or not so
much in some cases) parts of Europe
where the air is crisp and the grass is lush.
FORCED
RHUBARB
A firm favourite this time of year, forcing
rhubarb is the process whereby 2-3 year
old rhubarb crowns are brought inside
and starved of light and food, to stimulate
growth. This results in rhubarb with long
slender stalks of a vibrant pink colour with
small, pale undeveloped leaves. Sweeter
and more tender than outdoor grown
rhubarb, less sugar is needed when used
in cooking. The season lasts from February
to around the end of March, so don’t delay
and speak to our fresh produce team to
order yours.

JERUSALEM
ARTICHOKES
This variety of tuber is not truly an artichoke
but actually a type of sunflower and it
is from the Italian word for sunflower,
'girasole', that it gets its name.
In terms of flavour, the Jerusalem artichoke
is nutty, sweet and the flesh is deliciously
crunchy. To cook with, they can be treated
much like potatoes or parsnips and are
excellent roasted, sautéed or puréed and
used to make soup. Again, the season for
the English variety will come to an end
towards the end of March, but varieties from
other countries are available after this.

PURPLE
SPROUTING
BROCCOLI
Also known as PSB, this leafy, colourful
cousin of calabrese have delicate purple
florets and thinner stems. Its flowering
season mainly happens in February and
goes until April. Much more interesting on
the plate than the thick-stemmed calabrese,
and with much more tender stalks, they will
not fail to add colour and finesse to any
plate. Simply fry in a little oil, perhaps with
some garlic and parmesan cheese or some
sesame seeds and you have an appetizing
side dish which is easy to prepare but which
delivers in flavour.
Call Cam and Howie in our fresh produce department on 01580 213357 to
get more ideas about what to do with any of these items and make the most
of fine fresh produce at its peak.
PORTION Control
CEREALS
A large amount of the products we handle here at Turners make their way to our
customers in bulk quantities. 25kg bags of flour, 20 litre containers of oil and 25kg
blocks of butter are typical products on our shelves. But at the other end of the scale,
we have a varied selection of individually portioned & packaged products, often used
by restaurants, hotels and cafés to neatly deliver a single serving to their customers.
Whether it is boxes of cereal, butter or jam portions for your breakfast buffet, or
complimentary UHT milk, coffee or sugar sachets for your hotel rooms, we are sure that
we can help with your front of house needs.

Cam's Sichuan Guinea Fowl,
poached in Chinese master stock.
As the game bird shooting season has come to an end, you may
be seeing holes in your menu where pheasant, partridge and wild
duck once were. Fear not, we have a couple of great alternatives
for you if you are looking to fill that game bird void. Best of all we
are currently holding these in-stock, ready to be delivered to you
the very next day. As an added bonus, we asked two of our most
experienced chef employees, Cameron Maclean and Chris Moore
to come up with a delicious dish each using these alternatives.
GUINEA FOWL
A domesticated former game bird,
Guinea Fowl is perfect as an all-yearround option if you want something
a little more game-like. Its flavour
and texture is somewhere in between
chicken and pheasant, with firm flesh
and a subtle depth of flavour.

HONEY
Stock Item
"A delicate Sichuan dish that can fill the kitchen with
many delicious smells, lightly braised in a Chinese
master stock to keep the meat succulent and tender.
Accompanied by a tangy crisp portion of Asian pickled
vegetables. Serve as part of an Asian banquet or as a
main dish it is a deep flavoured dish with the scent of
ginger, garlic, chilli and Shaohsing Chinese Wine."
Pre-Order Item
"A rustic starter or bar meal, potted rabbit is a French
classic. Rabbit, which has been brined to keep it moist
and add flavour, is braised in a light stock and mixed with
tarragon and Pommery mustard.
Serving it with some freshly toasted walnut bread and a
shot of rabbit velouté makes it even more delicious."
Viscous and aromatic, Honey is a firm favourite when it comes
to natural sweeteners. Its colour and flavour can vary depending
on the type of flower the bees collect from and single origin
honey is common-place, with bees only collecting nectar from
one type of flower, giving it a distinctive flavour profile that
reflects the source and terroir of the plants, in much the same
way as wine does. Below are some of the types available from
Turners, from your everyday runny honey to some of the more
specialist varieties.

INTRODUCING...
EMMA ARDITTI
Emma has been a member of staff at Turners for a number
of years, previously as part of our telesales team but more
recently she has started a new role as an assistant to our
Account Managers. She is responsible for opening new
accounts and arranging customers on to the appropriate
delivery rounds, amongst many other daily duties...And of
course she does this whilst remaining as glamorous as is
physically possible at all times!
Emma has a passion for animals especially of the canine
variety and would love to one day own a Great Dane to add to
the six other dogs she already owns. So passionate is she that
she recently passed an animal care diploma (with distinction!) and
has a view to becoming the next dog whisperer as she would one
day like to be a canine behaviourist.
Not your average twenty-something girl, Emma describes her
favourite pastimes as going to bingo and watching (whilst singing
along to) Disney's Frozen...Need we say more?
