Ferris University Bulletin 2016 Course of Communication Studies Introduction The graduate program in the Department of Communication Studies is designed to prepare students to obtain a theoretical understanding of the functions, structures, and processes of human communication. Students will specialize in one of the following aspects of communication: (a) psychological nature of interpersonal communication; (b) mediated communication and societal issues; (c) roles of language in human communication; and (d) cross-cultural communication among people with different values and perspectives. The graduate program also emphasizes an empirical and scientific approach to issues involved in human communication. Through developing knowledge and skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods, students will be able to conduct their own research at the time of graduation.
