Just like the Akutagawa Prize winning novella that inspired it, Cocktail Party was born of an independent spirit. I seek a Japanese coproduction partner to insure authenticity and to create a film that will
first address the Japanese film market but also a film that can gain
notoriety via major film festivals and be released internationally.

日本との共同製作を目指す理由
この企画のインスピレーションとなった同名の芥川賞受賞作と同様に、
『Cocktail Party』はインディンペンデントの精神によって誕生しまし
た。リアル感を重視し、日本のマーケットを視野に入れた作品にする
ため、日本の共同制作パートナーを探しています。またメジャーな映画
祭での上映は勿論、国際的にも公開が可能な作品を目指します。
SYNOPSIS シノプシス
Hiroshi Uehara is a prominent Okinawan. He has made the most of
the difficult post-war years and is a survivor with no visible scars.
But Uehara’s hidden wounds are soon to be reopened. Facing
competition, Uehara resolves to turn things around with a US military
contract. Major Lucius Porter hosts the first cocktail party of his
tenure and Uehara is warmly welcomed as it is perceived he can
bridge the gap between the generation that sacrificed so much to
accommodate the base and the new generation of dynamic young
Okinawans.
But, the opportunity is jeopardized when the daughter of one of the
guests alleges a sexual assault by a Marine on the very night of the
party. Porter enlists Uehara’s support to set an example of restraint,
but powerless to calm waters around him, the great secrets of
Uehara’s life surge up from his past - his own teenage daughter had
been the victim of a sexual assault before the reversion. As Porter
continues to press Uehara to have the young woman withdraw the
charges and save their crucial arrangement, Uehara must choose
between saving his business or helping a family receive the justice
they passionately seek.

上原ひろしは沖縄で名士として知られている。終戦後の苦しい時代を
傷ひとつなく見事に生き抜いた男であるが、隠された傷跡がいま再び
ひらかれようとしていた。競争率の激しい米軍基地との契約を勝ち取
り、ビジネスの転機をうかがっている上原は、ルシウス・ポーター少
佐が主催する就任祝いのカクテル・パーティで歓迎される。米軍基地
の為に長年数々の犠牲に苦しんできた世代と、ダイナミックな若い世
代の繋ぎ役として、彼は期待されていた。
しかしその夜、あるゲストの娘が海軍兵士にレイプされたと訴え、状
況は一転する。ポーター少佐は上原に事態を収拾するように要請する
が、なす術もなく上原は自分の過去と向き合わざるを得なくなる。沖
縄返還直前に、上原の娘も米軍兵士による暴行事件の犠牲者となっ
ていたのだった。犠牲者の女性に訴えを取り下げるように圧力をかけ

Regge Life received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and holds
an MFA in directing from New York University. Recipient of 3 CINE Golden
Eagles, he was a NEA/Bunka-cho Creative Artist under the mentorship of
Yamada Yoji, a Japan Foundation Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar and a Sony
Innovator.
Lifecycle Productions Inc in association with Global Film Network Inc has a
proven track record of producing international films and experience filming in
Okinawa. In addition to the Japan trilogy other credits include The Story of Joe

Nowadays in China, people live under the illusions of bubble economy
just like the 80’s in Japan. Young Chinese girls want to marry rich
men or foreigners, including Japanese, but they cannot escape
the problems. The impressions based on virtual interactions are
misleading. Only by solving misunderstandings can the truth emerge!
With this film, I want to warn gently and encourage the young couples
living in their “illusions.” Girls must wake up and get real happiness!!

25 歳の萌萠と37歳のユウジは、
北京で共に映画制作を夢見る、
付き
合って5 年になるカップル。
萌萠の母親からの結婚のプレッシャーもあ
り、
現実的に将来を考え始める。
「日本に行って奥さんがいるかどうか、
確かめてきなさい。
時間を無駄にしないで」
という萌萠の母親。
春、
萌萠を日本に連れて行くユウジ。
歓迎する家族だが、
家には一泊しか
泊まらせてくれない。
中国では婚約者を家族の家に泊まらせるのが普
通である。
素直に従うユウジに怒る萌萠。
しかしユウジの家族は問題を
抱えていた。
この 5 年の間、
父親は解雇され、
両親の関係はすっかり冷
えきり、
同じ家で別居状態。
未婚の妹の仕事は金融危機に影響されう
まくいっていない。
日本に帰国して初めて家族との間に溝があることに
気付くユウジ。
早く結婚して欲しいと強く願う萌萠の母親の思いとは裏腹に、
日中カッ
プルは家族や文化に対する考え方の違いに直面し、
結婚に対する解決
策が見つけられない。
旅も終わりに近づいた頃、
ユウジの父親に会いに
パン屋に行く萌萠だが、
まったくコミュニケーションがとれない。
黙り込
んでしまうユウジの父親を前に、
萌萠は重要なことに気付く。

監督大塚竜治　In 2005, Otsuka started making documentaries in Beijing. In 2009, he made
his directorial debut with a mid-length feature film Lingling’s Garden (2009),
produced with Chinese cast and crew and the film screened at 30 places.
Judge(2009), which he served as Director of Photography screened at Venice
International Film Festival and it was distributed in Japan. In 2012, he shot
and produced Egg and Stone, which won a Tiger Award.

the 90s’. Since 2000, he started working as Producer for HHH – A Portrait of

generation film directors, such as Wang Xiao-shuai and Liu Jie. In 2012, Hsu
produced Egg and Stone with Ryuji Otsuka. Hsu serves as a consultant for

SYNOPSIS シノプシス
25-year-old Chinese Mengmeng and 37-year-old Japanese Yuji have
been going out for 5 years in Beijing and share dreams of filmmaking.
But now they are under pressure from Mengmeng’s mother to get
married and need to be realistic. “Go to Japan and find out whether
he’s got a wife there. Don’t waste your time!” says Mengmeng’s
mother.
In spring, Yuji takes Mengmeng to Japan and Yuji’s family welcomes
her at home. However they only allow the couple to stay for one
night. In China, it is quite normal that the fiancée stays with the
fiancé’s family. Mengmeng gets angry because Yuji doesn’t negotiate
with his family on her behalf. However, there are some problems at
Yuji’s family. During the past 5 years, his father was let go from his
work and the relationship with Yuji’s mother has gone sour. They are
practically separated under the same roof. Yuji’s unmarried sister has
taken blows from the financial crisis. Upon returning to Japan, Yuji
realizes for the first time that he is actually so distant from his own
family.
Despite Mengmeng mother’s wish for them to get married, Yuji and
Mengmeng have no idea how to solve the problems they face. At the
end of the trip, Mengmeng visits a bakery shop alone to meet Yuji’s
father, however she doesn’t know how to communicate. Face to face
with Yuji’s silent father, she realizes something important.

The film will visualize the image of how Japanese pop culture has
affected the whole world. The loyal fans perceived Japan as their land
of dreams despite the strong stream of the Korean wave, especially
in a country such as Indonesia. Or in a country as far as in Europe,
you can find Japanese at heart with blonde hair and blue eyes. Thus,
we need support to produce in Japan, in terms of human resources
(crew), location, and casts.

Arisa and Anindya, both in their late twenties, are two founders of
two different fan-base communities in Indonesia. Both communities
are rivals, although similar. Those similarities lie on their seniority
as long term fans educating newbies, their frequent use of mixing
Japanese words in their daily lives and their urgency to get the
impossible; concert tickets and fan-boys.
Corrine is an outcast in her school in France but very much the It
Girl in the virtual world. A virgin who never had a boyfriend but has
an adult rating of her well written yaoi fan-fictions. Hello Kitties
jump out of her fan-fictions and kiss each other as her readers would
imagine. Eventually she finds how her fluency in Japanese helps her
to connect with her dying Alzheimer grandfather.
Mariko is a Japanese married woman who brings her only son
everywhere to her stalking activities; to prove to her fellow fan-girls
that her One True Pairing are dating each other for real. When reality
overrides her fantasy, will reality lose its importance? Who are the
idols she falls in love with, the one in her fantasy or ones who live
underneath those cute Hello Kitty costumes?

Creator’s Statement on reason for seeking to co-produce
with Japan
The movie is set mostly in Japan and the recent translation to
Japanese of the novel in which the script is based makes it perfect
for co-production with Japanese partners. Also during the coming
years (2013-2014) there will be the Year of Spain in Japan, when
a series of cultural events are expected to remember the common
history of both countries.

Nancy Savoca’s first feature film, True Love (1989) won the Grand Jury Prize
at the 1989 Sundance Film Festival. The film was recently called one of the “50
Greatest Independent Films of All-Time” by Entertainment Weekly. Her work
has been the subject of retrospectives by The American Museum of the Moving
Image and the New York Women’s Film Festival.
という弥次郎をキリスト教へと改宗させるザビエル。
だが弥次郎は、
日
本で殺人の罪に問われて、
処刑を逃れようと海外で逃亡中だと告白す
る。
しかし彼にはアリバイがあった。
ポルトガル国王の使者という名目
で、
ザビエルや他の伝道師達と帰国する弥次郎。
伝道師の中には、
元音
楽家や料理家もいれば、
女性に目がない新人の修練者もいる。
薩摩の大名である島津に、
眼鏡や時計などを贈呈し、
キリスト教の布教
を許可されるものの、
弥次郎を法廷で裁き、
無罪が証明されない限りは
吊るし首にすると警告される。
捜査を始めるザビエルだが、
夜襲をかけられたり、
驚くべき戦法を身に
つけた僧侍との対決を強いられる。
法廷で、
ザビエルは時計と継続した時間というコンセプトを使って弥次
郎のアリバイを証明し、
村人が見守る中、
本当の犯人を言い当てる。

SYNOPSIS シノプシス
Xavier, a Spanish nobleman known for his skills in horse riding
and fencing, becomes a Jesuit priest and travels to Asia to preach.
In Malacca he befriends the exiled samurai Yajiro who is keen in
comparing sword fighting styles with the missionary. Xavier converts
Yajiro to Christianity. The samurai confesses that he was accused of
murder in Japan and had to escape to avoid execution. He says he
had an alibi (claiming he was elsewhere at the moment of the crime).
Conﬁdent in Xavier´s credentials as envoy of the King of Portugal,
they travel to Japan with other priests, among them a musician, a
cook and a young novice who divides his attention between God, and
Asian women.
After receiving from Xavier gifts such as reading glasses and a
mechanical clock Shimazu, the Daimyo of Satsuma, gives him
permission to preach Christianity. Shimazu however asks for a trial to
prove Yajiro´s innocence or to hang him for the killing.
Xavier starts an investigation challenged by mysterious attacks at
night, confrontation with the Warrior monks a ferocious sect with
spectacular ﬁghting techniques.
Xavier uses the clock and the concept of continuous time to prove
Yajiro’s alibi and, in front of the amused villagers, points out the real
killer.

SYNOPSIS シノプシス
In wartime New Zealand, one of the country’s first policewoman,
Edna Pearce, is called on to supervise Japanese women and children,
rounded up from the South Pacific and interned as prisoners of war.
She’s keen to carry out her duty. But the cultural divide causes
confusion and misunderstanding. Struggling to do her job, Edna
strikes up a surprising friendship with a young Japanese girl, Nanae.
The child becomes a bridge between cultures.
Edna bonds with Nanae and her people, defending them against local
threats. Edna moves from jailer to advocate, and eventually friend
as her love for Nanae grows and her heart is opened. In turn the
refugees find a respect for their strangely caring custodian.
As months turn to years, much like her wards, Edna herself becomes
a prisoner of the war.
Missu Peace is the true story of Edna and Nanae’s journey and
Edna’s battle for these women in the face of a looming tragedy. But,
even this far from the frontline, despite her most valiant efforts, she
cannot save them all.
